Social Media Policy Persimmon Counselling
Purpose
This Social Media Policy explains how I, as your therapist, manage my online presence and how I interact (or do not interact) with clients on social media platforms. These guidelines are in place to protect your privacy and maintain clear, professional therapeutic boundaries.
No Online Interactions
To maintain your confidentiality and preserve the therapeutic relationship, I do not accept friend requests, follow clients, or engage with clients through social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, or others).
This is a professional boundary designed for your protection.
Public Comments & Reviews
You are welcome to follow my professional social media pages if you wish; however, I strongly recommend not commenting, tagging, or publicly engaging with my posts. Any public interaction may compromise your privacy.
Reviews & Testimonials
Ethical guidelines for mental health professionals do not allow me to request or accept client testimonials.
You may post a review voluntarily, but please be aware that:
– I cannot respond to or acknowledge your review, even to thank you.
– Replying could be seen as confirming you are a client, which would violate your confidentiality.
Direct Messaging
I do not use social media direct messages for:
Scheduling
Therapy-related communication
Crisis support
Messages sent through social media may not be secure or monitored. Please use email or phone for scheduling and professional communication.
In an emergency, contact emergency services or your local crisis hotline immediately.
Boundaries With Content
My social media pages may share general mental health information, education, or resources. However:
Posts are not a substitute for therapy.
They should not be interpreted as personal advice.
Engaging with or consuming my content does not establish a therapeutic relationship.
Your Social Media Activity
I will never search for your social media profiles or online information.
You are free to view or follow my content as you choose, but I recommend considering how your online activity may affect your privacy.
Contacting Me Through My Website
Please use the contact information on my website for professional inquiries.
Submitting information through a contact form or email does not create a therapeutic relationship until we have mutually agreed to work together.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated periodically. The most current version will always be available on my website.
